SunWind
Founder
Michael Cooke founded SunWind Solar Industries
Inc. in 1998 to provide solar energy information
and to be a source of "hands-on" solar
energy kits for children. SunWind kits allow children to explore
simple mechanics themselves while building solar-electric
machines
of their own design, incorporating recycled materials if they wish.
Born
in Bristol, England; raised in Lloydminster and Edmonton,
Michael
graduated from the University of Alberta in Canada with a B.A. in
English and Chemistry.
He worked in a number of basic industries
in the Arctic, including marine shipping, mine warehousing, and air
freight, as well as on
farms and deep sea, and also travelled. He eventually
returned to the University of Alberta as
a mature student,
to graduate
with
a
Bachelor of Education in Secondary Physical
Sciences in 1995. While at university he worked on
a renewable energy kit for elementary grades, from which came
SolarDrive.
After graduating he distributed
elementary
school supplies from Technology Teaching Systems to teachers and
schools in Alberta; making introductory kits.
Today Michael Cooke resides on Salt
Spring Island, making Solar Car and Inventor's kits for children.
